Prologue

Lord Arthur Barring demands a memento of himself, so that he can remembered for decades to come. He commissions a local stamp maker to create one in his likeness. The Governer of India laughs at the result, making Lord Arthur feel humiliated and he throws the stamp out, only to be picked up by his little grandson….

Charles Barring IV is holding a press conference in A Famosa. Showcasing his most valuable family heirloom, the Barring Stamp. Barring, after journeying around the world, has come back to Malacca, where the stamp was first created and with noble intent, wants to display the stamp at the Malacca Museum.

Sid and Joe, two common conmen, are there at the press conference, with the devious intent of stealing the stamp, but this is coupled with sincere intent – they have to save the orphanage they grew up in from destruction. The Stamp is valued at RM2,000,000. Pak Ramli, their surrogate father, has asked them this favour. He needs RM500,000 to purchase the land on which the orphanage exists.

Unbeknown to them, not only they have an interest in the stamp. Lim Piranha, the head Ah Long is also quite interested in obtaining the stamp for his own personal gain. And so is Vellu, a driver for a security company, and his best friend Mani, who has just got out of jail, again.  Coincidentally, Vellu is the driver of the van that is supposed to transport the stamp to the museum.

They each create their own elaborate plans to sabotage the van on its trip. But, as luck would have it, things are never that simple. With three gangs vying for the same thing, the situation becomes chaotic. It doesn’t end up with any of them, but with Aryanto, an illegal immigrant who has just got off the boat in Klang, and who is searching for his liason, Marcello.  Marcello, being the slightly smarter one of the two, knows the value of the stamp and schemes to get it. Unfortunately (again) the stamp ends up with Iskandar, a blind man, who has no idea that he has this prize in his hands. Yasmin, Iskandar’s sister sees the stamp and uses it to send a letter asking for help to pay for her brother’s eye operation. The letter is put in a post box.

The gangs now go after the postman but ends up with Lim.  Lim wants to sell the stamp to another gangster (who is more adept at selling stolen goods). The stamp is valued. And it is a fake! Charles Barring has tricked everyone by created an alternative stamp to claim millions in insurance once it is stolen (which he was very sure it would be – hence the press conference!). But even Charles is unlucky in his pursuit. He is caught at the airport.
